No.29, New Fit Note with GPs from April, last updated on: 21/03/2010
New NHS Fit Note Becomes Reality on 6th April 2010.

Our readers will remember our 2nd Edition of Get A Little Extra when the Fit Note was being considered.
The New NHS Fit Note shall be used by GPs in the UK in the hope that it will revolutionise the occupational health system.
From 6th April 2010, GPs shall be able to assess how much and what type of work a patient can do considering the extent of his or her injuries.

The options available to GPs include the following:
- a phased return to work,
- amended dties in the workplace
- amended hours of work
- workplace adaptions to assist the patient return to work where required
The New Fit Note is expected to benefit the British economy by over £240.

"Its aim is quite simple", said John Lawrence of Tennyson Suite Limited. The Company's Safety Director commented that. "Employers can work closely with GPs to ensure that employees get the right support, so enabling them to return to work sooner".
